CBS Denver

DENVER (AP) – Denver voters have rejected a proposal to require businesses to provide paid sick leave.

The measure would have made Denver the nation’s fourth city to require the leave. It was losing badly with a majority of votes counted Tuesday.

Initiative 300 was fiercely opposed by business interests, especially restaurants. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock starred in a commercial calling the proposal a bad idea, and even Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper weighed in against it.

The required sick leave proposal was supported by a women’s advocacy group and some low-wage workers.
